FAQ
FAQ's
Will the Lake be Closed during treatment?
Yes, the lake will be closed during treatment allowing Freshwater Consulting, Inc. to work safely and maximize the efficiency of the application.
What time of year is the best for treatment?
The best times are spring (April/May) or fall (Sept./Oct.).
Can phosphorus in stormwater runoff be controlled?
Yes, Freshwater’s On-Shore Treatment System is used to control external sources of phosphorus (for example, storm water entering a lake from a ditch or culvert). With this approach, the chemical formulation is injected into the external water source and binds the phosphorus to the floc before it enters the lake, thus rendering the phosphorus unavailable for algal growth.
When should a lake consider using a Freshwater Treatment System?
Contact Freshwater if your lake is experiencing one or several of the following warning signs:
- Nuisance algal blooms
- Low water clarity
- Noxious Odors
- Sick pets after consuming water
- Fish Kills (low oxygen levels)
- Reduced recreational and property values
Will the treatment seal the bottom of the lake?
The in-lake treatment creates a barrier to phosphorus attempting to leach out of the sediments. However, the barrier is light and porous and does not restrict the movement of groundwater (i.e. spring flow) into the lake.
